Macdonald Hotels & Resorts becomes first hotel group in the UK to offer Jennifer Young spa treatments for those affected by cancer
Macdonald Hotels & Resorts has become the first hotel group in the UK to offer Jennifer Young spa treatments for people who are living with and beyond cancer.
The largest independently-owned hotel group in the UK has teamed up with specialist skincare company, Jennifer Young – Beauty Despite Cancer, to offer spa treatments and specialist products for people living with and beyond cancer, as well as to provide training for their in-house beauty therapists and front of house staff.
The collection has just been launched at the luxurious four-star spas at Macdonald Berystede Hotel & Spa in Ascot, Macdonald Inchyra Hotel & Spa near Stirling and Macdonald Manchester Hotel and will be rolled out across the other 17 spas situated across the UK throughout 2019.
Emma Leadbeater, Macdonald Spa Director, said: “We are very proud to be the first hotel group in the UK to be able to offer Jennifer Young spa treatments for those affected by cancer.
“The decision to launch this range of products and treatments was driven by the demand from those living with cancer who are frequently unable to pamper themselves with conventional spa and beauty treatments due to sensitive skin and nails, a common consequence of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.”
Those living with and beyond cancer often have their lives turned upside down, with a number of day-to-day experiences no longer being an option due to the physical or mental effects of their chemotherapy or radiotherapy. For this reason, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts’ front of house staff and spa therapists have undergone specialist training in Jennifer Young’s accredited training school where they learned treatment techniques, as well as the appropriate language to use and sensitive consultation advice, to ensure the spa experience is normalised for guests looking to boost their sense of wellbeing with a spot of pampering.
Jennifer Young used her scientific background, as well as extensive research with cancer specialists and patients to develop a variety of products designed to mitigate and ease the harsh effects that both chemotherapy and radiotherapy can have on the body, skin, nails and lips.
A number of treatments and product ranges will be available across the Macdonald Spa Collection. The ‘Defiant Beauty’ range is specially formulated for those living with cancer and addresses the side effects cancer treatments can have on skin, body and nails. The ‘Beyond Beauty’ range is formulated for use after cancer treatment and is designed for those who have been through chemotherapy or radiotherapy. All products contain a blend of ingredients and essential oils that are gentle on sensitive skin as well as having anti-ageing benefits.
Jennifer said: “It’s so often the case that those living with and beyond cancer are denied the chance to feel good and relax, but by working with Macdonald Hotels & Resorts we are offering more people the chance to get a sense of normality amidst what can be a challenging time.”
“Cancer and its side effects come in many different forms and the beauty of these products is that they are adapted by the accredited, highly trained staff to suit each guest’s need, leaving them feeling good and a bit more like their usual self.”
As part of the collaboration with Jennifer Young and Satya Life, the exclusive distributors of the specialist range, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts will be supporting Ellie’s Friend, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of adults affected by cancer across the UK.
To mark the launch of the specialist range, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts will be collaborating with Ellie’s Friend to give away five free spa days in each of the three hotels in which the collection has already launched.
Emma Leadbeater added: “We know how beneficial a massage or facial can be and we didn’t want anyone who is affected by cancer to be denied that feeling of deep relaxation and self-care that a visit to a spa can provide.”
Macdonald Hotels Spa Collection covers 20 locations across the UK and the Jennifer Young – Beauty Despite Cancer range will be available in each location by the end of 2019, including Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel, Macdonald Forest Hills Hotel & Spa in Aberfoyle, Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa in North Berwick, Macdonald Randolph in Oxford and Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel & Spa in Chester.
Claudia Agha, Director of Satya Life comments “this is an amazing collaboration. Within 12 months Jennifer young oncology treatments and products will be available nationwide in all Macdonald spas, reaching out to many local communities. I’m delighted that these treatments are accessible to many who can enjoy a relaxing spa day in complete confidence. That’s why we are working so hard to achieve this.”
